She's off ECMO & in Mommy's Arms
Well, I feel a bit neglectful. We've had a lot of news in the last 24 hours. Yesterday they determined that she was doing very well. She's off the ECMO machine and they are taking the tubes out of her neck today - which means one thing -- Neely and Chris get to hold her for the very first time. Now what's so amazing is that they have NEVER held her. She was worked on because of low response from the minute she was born, so the most they could do was hold her feet while the midwife administered CPR and checked her vitals before deciding to transfer her to the hospital immediately.
She will have some snuggle time with mom and dad before her surgery on Friday (or sooner) and then by next week we should be over the major crisis. Nan just got back with new pictures from the hospital, and I'm posting them right now. So check on the PHOTO PAGE for the new pictures of the baby with her eyes open!!
Nan says she just looks so "pissed off" at being stuck in a world of tubes and iv cords. She'll be so happy to experience life without them soon. Tomorrow I won't be posting, but I should be back online by Friday. Till then...

We feel a bit helpless out here, but Krista and I have been checking in religiously for updates....thanks Lauren (and Nan) for taking time every day to keep us all up to date. Especially for me right now as I'm in Alabama and will be here until sometime next week. :( I thought I'd let you know that about half of Virginia is actively praying for the family. Krista and I have spoken with a few of our neighbors who are active with their church (we live in a pretty religious neighborhood, it seems) and they have spread the story like wildfire...there are at least 5 local churches who have placed Oleyen and the family in their prayer circles, and these people are ACTIVE. Then Robin at work passed it on to her brother, who is a pastor in Georgia, and their congregation placed their prayers and hope on an anointed cloth (which they sent to me and I have for Oleyen). It's very touching to know I have so many friends and neighbors who will go to a lot of trouble to keep my family in their prayers. I'm not at all a religious man, but Krista and I started this process two days before we got word that there were signs of her breathing on her own, so if nothing else, I know it can't hurt to ask. :) We're thinking about you....
